Part-time pathways into 3D Animation & Games

 

Certificate II in Screen (Basic 3D Animation)

Offered by AIE in partnership with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT), the Certificate II in Screen (Basic 3D Animation) is designed to introduce students to the
many career opportunities available for 3D artists, animators and designers.
By arrangement with your school, this qualification can be included as part of your ACT year 12 certificate.

Modules of Study

Introduction
• Navigating the 3dsmax interface
• Learning about the fundamental creation techniques in 3D animation

3D Environments
• Modelling a virtual setting
• Using cameras and lighting systems
• Creating realistic textures with Adobe Photoshop

Character Animation
• Model in 3D using industry techniques
• UVW Unwrap and paint character textures
• Rigging 3D meshes to animation systems
• Create dynamic character animation

Special Effects
• Learn how to use particle systems
• Create flame and fire effects

Short Movie Production
The culmination of the course involves students working
together in teams to produce an animated short film.
Throughout the project, each student takes on different
roles such as storyboarding, concept art development,
animation, texturing, lighting and rendering.

$571.76 (some concessions available)
$193.76 for ACT and NSW Year 11 & 12 students


Certificate II in I.T. (Basic Game Programming)

The Certificate II in Information Technology (Basic Game Programming) is designed to introduce students to the many career opportunities available for programmers in
the games and interactive industries.

So if you want to begin to learn the skills to make games and interactive applications in an area that is rapidly growing ~ this course is ideal for you. By
arrangement with your school, this qualification can be included as part of your ACT year 12 certificate.

Modules of Study

Introduction
• Game engine usage
• The workflow in game production

Game Design
• Fundamental game design principles
• Core gameplay essentials
• User-based interaction design

Programming for interaction
• Programming languages
• Scripting
• Variables
• Classes
• De-bugging

Creating Classic Games such as fast-paced puzzles, button-mashing top down action and side-scrolling games.

Game Production
The culmination of the course involves students working together to produce a significantly complex, unique game. Students will undertake the game development
cycle from design, pitching, completing set milestones, quality assurance and final presentation.

2008 Course costs
$650 (some concessions available)
$290 for ACT and NSW Year 11 & 12 students


These courses both run one evening per week, 5:30 - 9:30pm, for 18 weeks.

Certificate II courses run twice each year, commencing on 27th February and 23rd July 2008.
