Canberra Students Tropfest Finalists Again

A film produced by Canberra’s animation students at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) has been listed as a finalist at the Tropfest short film competition for the second year running. A total of 24 students worked on the film, Fault, for 16 weeks under the direction of their teacher, Dan Miller.

“It’s a good result for my students, they get to graduate as award winning film makers,” Dan said. The students studied Canberra Institute of Technology's Diploma of Screen which is delivered by AIE.

The achievement is even more impressive considering AIE students worked on one of last years finalists, The Story of Ned.  2007 graduate Luke Smart said, “I just thought we were learning how to animate for film, I didn’t expect to be contributing to something that would become so successful.”

“Being short-listed for Tropfest is a tremendous achievement,” said AIE’s CEO Ian Gibson, “Being short-listed twice in a row is testament to the talent of the students and teaching staff at AIE. We’re very proud of all of them.”

Students at AIE were appreciative of the support provided by CIT’s Industry Music Centre students under Director of Sound, Troy Hambly and Director of Music, Mark Webber. After last year’s success, students at AIE will be looking forward to the screening of Fault along with 15 other finalist in Commonwealth Park on February 17. Over 150,000 people will view the screenings nationally.
