GAME1 Melbourne Roundup, see you at GAME1 Sydney!!

8 Nov 06

AIE had a great time at the recent GAME1 expo and tournament in Melbourne! Held in the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, GAME1 showcased the latest new release & upcoming game titles, next gen consoles & technology (including exclusive play-tests of the Nintendo Wii console!!), education, games recruitment, gamers’ websites and a 30 hour LAN tournament.

It was a great turnout over the two days, with many people stopping by AIE’s booth to play Aporkalypse, developed by AIE 2005 Diploma of Computer Game Development students, as well as view the latest short films developed in the Diploma of Screen and to find out more about our courses. It was also great to catch up with graduates Simon Healey and Stefan Allaki, who came down to say hello. Both are now Q&A testers with Tantalus and Krome Melbourne respectively, and are hoping to move into development teams soon.

Nintendo premiered their latest console, the Nintendo Wii, to massive crowds of people! Along with the Wii, Nintendo also had a selection of games to be played, including The Legend of Zelda : Twighlight Princess and Wii Sports. The Wii is very, very cool, with the Nunchuk™ controller working exceptionally well. Fans lined up for nearly an hour just to have their turn on the Wii.

Stacks of new release games on display for people to play including titles such as Need for Speed: Carbon, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Tony Hawks Project 8, Splinter Cell Double Agent, World Series Poker: Tournament of Champions, WWE Smackdown VS RAW and many more.

It was great to see the guys from Irrational Games and Ambit Recruitment there to showcase Irrationals latest game, Bioshock. Matt & Yug from Australian Gamer were also there, grabbing lollies, playing Mario Kart & Sonic and running amok with a video camera! You can check out their video of the event here.

Overall GAME1 was a great weekend, and we can't wait for the next one in Sydney on 2nd and 3rd of December, so make sure you come down and check us out!
