Minister Plays Up at AIE

21 Sep 06

ACT Minister for Education and Training, Mr Andrew Barr's recent visit to Academy of Interactive Entertainment's (AIE) Canberra campus allowed him to briefly forget the cares of office and have a play! As part of his time with students, Mr Barr played a selection of games currently being developed by AIE's Game Development students, including Big Screen Games, a collection of multiplayer mini games and Jungle Escape, a cartoon style platform game.

Mr Barr toured AIE's state of the art campus and spent some time with each class, viewing the latest work in production by Diploma of Screen and Certificate IV in 3D Animation for Games and Film courses, which are offered in a unique partnership with Canberra Institute of Technology.

Ian Gibson, AIE CEO said "It was great for the AIE community to meet the new minister and feel that here was someone with an understanding of the importance of digital media and games education. The minister was certainly impressed by what we do here".

Mr Barr also viewed AIE short animated films and discussed AIE's award winning programs, including its CIT relationship, with Ian Gibson, Neil Boyd, AIE Head of School and Peter De Decker, Dean of Faculty of Design, Canberra Institute of Technology.
