Sydney Holiday Courses

JULY 2016

  • Holiday courses run from 9am until 5pm.
  • All participants will receive a certificate of completion.
  • Students are encouraged to bring a USB stick to save their work.
  • We ask that students provide their own lunch, morning and afternoon tea where possible as there is NO canteen close by for students to purchase food and lunch is not provided.

Holiday Course Descriptions

Getting Animated with Maya

Do you want to learn how to animate in 3D, but don't know where to start?
This introductory course will put you in the "animators driver seat" and teach you the skills that will help you get started. Using the industry standard software in 3D animation - Autodesk Maya, Participants will create storyboards to plan out their animation, and then use these storyboards as a guide to bring objects and characters to life in a 3D environment. No animation or previous experience working in 3D packages is required for this course.

Making Monsters

Harness your imagination to create wonderful, wild and weird creatures in 3D!
Create your first basic 3D creature with our introductory crash course Modelling Monsters using Autodesk Maya and Pixologic Zbrush. Let your creativity run wild and bring your imagination to life. No animation or previous experience working in 3D packages is required for this course.
Ages: 10 - 14 years

Designing Game Levels

Join us for an in-depth workshop focusing on game level design principles.
Learn the various principles, techniques and rules that professional Game Designers use to create amazing game worlds and engaging levels. We will look into pacing, flow and storytelling aspects of virtual worlds and show you how you can plan out your own unique game worlds.
Ages: 12 - 16 years

Puzzle Master

Do you enjoy conquering mind-bending physics or narrative-driven puzzles?
In this workshop, we will look into various Game Design principles that tie in with puzzle creation and explore creative techniques on how to keep difficulty interesting and challenging throughout a game experience. We will do paper prototyping of several puzzles and show you how you can create interesting experiences.
Ages: 12 - 16 years

World of Minecraft

Do you enjoy minecraft?
This week long course involves Minecraft.....lots of minecraft. A full description is coming soon!

Introduction to 3D Animation

Introduction to 3D Animation is designed as an introductory course for people interested in learning basic skills in 3D art. Students will be introduced to the uses and architecture of 3D software and will gain an understanding of skills and techniques necessary to create and render 3D objects through the creation of a 3D environment. Areas of study include: introduction to 3D modelling, basic modelling, texturing, lighting and character animation.
Ages: 15 years+

Introduction to Game Programming

Introduction to Game Programming teaches students how to program using Javascript and is designed to introduce students to the many career opportunities available for programmers in games and in interactive and creative industries.
Modules of study introduce students to the fundamentals of games design and development. This course allows students to gain an understanding of game programming and gives participants a further understanding of skills and techniques necessary to create fun, innovative games.
Ages: 15 years+
