Course Overview

Learn how to make cool 'old school' arcade style games using the powerful Game Maker software.

Absolutely no programming knowledge is required! Gamemaker allows users to quickly grasp basic functions of the software. As the course progresses, you will also learn to use Gamemakers built in scripting to create more powerful games. Through a series of interactive tutorials, students will learn to create three unique games, including a side scroller, platform game and a space invader style game.

This course is ideal for anyone interested in creating their own small arcade style games or for students looking to learn basic scripting techniques that can be applied in further programming courses.

Software Requirements:

Students will need the following software to successfully complete the online course:
  • Gamemaker (free download)
  • Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox (with free flash plugin)
  • Adobe Acrobat reader
Students will also need an internet connection, preferably broadband, though dial-up would be sufficient.

Course costs

This non-accredited short course is free and can be completed in approximately 20hrs of flexible online study.

Pre-requisites

This course assumes no previous experience using Gamemaker software.
