Overview

Game Programming Foundations teaches students how to program using C# and is designed to introduce students to the many career opportunities available for programmers in games, interactivity and creative industries.

Modules of study introduce students to the fundamentals of games design and development. This course of study allows students to gain an understanding of games programming using C#, the world's most popular and widely-supported programming languages. The course is intended to give participants an understanding of skills and techniques necessary to create a range of fun, playable games.

Game Programming Foundations features an intensive production unit where students work together to produce a unique game of their own design. Students undertake the game development cycle from design, pitching, completing set milestones, quality assurance and final presentation.

Game Programming Foundations serves as a valuable bridge to further study in games programming, such as games programming at Advanced Diploma level. Graduates of the Certificate II are also equipped with broad knowledge and skills which are increasingly in demand in multimedia, interactive-technology and many other IT-related areas.

Online Hardware Requirements

The minimum computer specifications that we recommend for Certificate courses are:

  • i5 microprocessor
  • 8 GB ram
  • This is a 100% online delivered course so there is a reasonable bandwidth speed required (512kbps minimum recommended) and downloads may vary from 60MB – 100MB per week for classes. An initial download of the software will be needed and this is around 4GB.
  • Headset with microphone

The minimum suggested computer specifications are:

  • 6 series NVidia graphics card
  • This is a 100% online delivered course so there is a reasonable bandwidth speed required (512kbps minimum recommended) and downloads may vary from 60MB – 100MB per week for classes. An initial download of the software will be needed and this is around 4GB.

If your current computer meets these specifications, you will be able to install and run the software required for your course.

Online Software Requirements

Online students will need the following software to successfully complete the course. All the software is free to download or will be provided on a DVD.

  • Notepad++ (Windows) - Notepad++ OR Text Edit for Macintosh (comes installed)
  • Chrome browser for Windows and Macintosh - Google (choose your system)
  • Tiled Map Editor - Map Editor
  • Photoshop or Gimp
  • Adobe Connect plugin
  • PDF Reader such as Adobe Acrobat reader

Students will also need an internet connection, preferably broadband for streaming live discussions, collaboration and downloads.

This is a direct entry course, no portfolio or interview is necessary.
