The Certificate III in Media is a nationally accredited course designed to introduce students to the many career opportunities available for 3D artists, animators and designers.
This course is an introduction into the range of skills involved in creating 3D art. Students will be taught modelling, animating, texturing and rendering using 3D Studio Max. Students will also learn the basics of creating 2D art using Adobe Photoshop and basic video editing using Ulead MediaStudio or Adobe Premier. The Certificate III course is particularly relevant for anyone who wishes to establish a skills base for further training in 3D graphics for games and film or as a portfolio boost for existing graphic design professionals.
As a flexible delivery course, students can enrol at any time
and complete their studies at their own pace.
Structure of the course
The Certificate III in Media is made up of the modules in the table below. You may enroll in all modules of the Certificate III in Media or you may opt to enrol in each module separately.

Areas of Study
Online Module: Introduction to 3dsmax (4 hours)
Introduces students to the 3dsmax interface, basic manipulation and creation tools as well as file management skills and issues.
Online Module: Modeling 1 (12 hours)
Learn how create and model 3D objects in 3dsmax. Students will learn to model objects using modifiers to create a number of models and a environment.
Online Module: Texturing 1 (12 hours)
Students will use digital cameras and Photoshop to create images. They will learn how to apply these images accurately to 3d objects.
Online Module: Animation 1 (12 hours)
Students will learn about animating objects in 3dsmax and how to apply these animation skills to related areas.
Online Module: Cameras, Lights, Render (8 hours)
Students will use a cameras and lights in 3dsmax in order to render professional images.
Online Module: Video and Sound (4 hours)
Students will learn how to use video-editing software and sound editing software to make their rendered movies more professional.
Online or Onsite Module: Production (48 hours)
Students incorporate their work and pre-rendered footage in a simulated team environment to produce a three minute movie which covers all aspects of the course, as well as the production pipeline within a realistic production environment.
Course Costs
$525 per module, total courses fees $1575 for 3 modules. This cost does not include software requirements.

Pre-requisites
As an introductory level course there are no pre-requisites for entry.
Software & Hardware requirements
Students will require the following to complete the online course:
- Internet connection (Broadband recommended)
- Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator or similar
- 3D Studio Max 6 or above (Current Version is 3DS Max 2011)
- Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Photoshop 6 or 7 or Adobe Photoshop CS or above (current version is CS5) or GIMP (Free Download)
- Ulead VideoStudio 6+ or Windows Live movie maker (Free Download)
- Audacity sound editor (Free Download)
- Word processing software (MS Word, OpenOffice, etc)
Please note that most of the software required for the course is available as academic or student versions, at significantly lower costs. 3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop are available online from Storm FX, www.stormfx.com.au. Ulead Video Studio, Internet Explorer and word processing software (MS Word, OpenOffice etc) are available from most software retailers. Audacity Sound Editor is a free software package, available for download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity.
