A Certificate II or a Certificate III with AIE can prove a great introduction to game programming or 3D animation. The courses are delivered regularly throughout the year and run in the evenings over several weeks or in an intensive format.

The Academy of Interactive Entertainment runs holiday courses in each campus. These courses are aimed at students under 18 but people of all ages are welcomed to attend selected courses. Please check back here before each school holiday period to see what courses are available.

The following list of past games and animation courses should give you an idea of the courses that may run next school holiday period (each campus will have it's own timetable for holidays which can be found by following the links above). Most holiday games and animation courses run for two days from 9am-4pm.

Alien Planet - Beginners Course
Set up a scene straight out of your imagination. Your alien planet can be anything that you desire - and more with some help from our teachers. From the frozen plains of ice to boiling streams of lava. Students will produce a scene and learn about modelling texturing and lighting. All students will leave with a copy of their final rendered movies, along with the work of their classmates, on DVD.

Trackmania Junior - Beginners Course
The always popular Trackmania is back! Use cutting-edge game engine technology to create your own race car and put it into a game. Students will be able to leave with their own game to play as well as a DVD with captured in-game footage to show to family and friends. This two-day course is suitable for all students from complete beginners to those with experience in 3D animation.

Monster Mash - Beginners Course
Ever wanted to design your own cool scary monster? From large hairy, fire breathing beasts to little 3 eyed slimy green Martians, the choices are endless! Students will learn skills in 3D modelling, texturing, and animation to create their own little monster. All students leave with a copy of their monster movie, along with the work of their classmates, on DVD.

Kodu Controller Madness - Beginners Course
Kodu is a new game development tool being used by young students around the world to introduce them to the world of game making. During this course, students will be taught the basics of building their own worlds and games inside Kodu and take home the skills to keep on building and adapting their own worlds. Students will be able to take home a DVD with all their work.

Castle of Dreams or Destruction - Beginners Course
This is your chance to design and build your very own ancient Castle, be it a monstering tower or fear or a heaven for the world's people, it is up to you to decide. Students will use a variety of 3D software to create their building and combine their work to create a DVD movie showcasing their creations.

Make it your game - Beginners Course
Use your imagination to change our 2D game to your own personalised game. You will start with a scrolling game, which has been made by us, and get to change where and how the action happens. You even get to put your name in the credits. All students will leave with a copy of their final game, along with the work of their classmates, on DVD.

Space Warp 3D - Beginners Course
In this course you will create a 3D world with a sci-fi theme and design and model a futuristic machine with real physics. Finally, you will create a star ship to explore the deepest reaches of the solar system. All students will leave with a copy of their final rendered movies, along with the work of their classmates, on DVD.

Warcraft 3 Mod Madness - Beginners Course
Do you like playing DOTA, Warcraft 3 or any RTS? Bored with playing the same maps over and over again? Think you can do better! This course will help teach you the different tools of the trade for creating your own levels and then you will get to test them out before taking them home and sharing them with your friends.

Sprite Mania - Intermediate Course
All world renowned characters started off in sprite format, from Mario and Donkey Kong, to mega man, link and sonic. Now it's your turn to come up with a brand new character to take their place at the top of sprite kingdom. Students will learn about the intricacies behind creating a sprite sheet for a character and place it in a premade game. Students will get to take home a copy of the game as well as all the sprite sheets used created throughout the week.

Scrolling Games - Intermediate Course
Do you want to explore how games are made with out having to start from the beginning? Start with a half built scrolling game and learn how to change the way it plays, through editing existing scripts, and change the art, making it into something you like to play. All students will leave with a copy of their final game, along with the work of their classmates, on DVD.

Introduction to 3D Animation - Intermediate Course (one set of Headphones are required)
Using a special model, students will learn the different tricks of the trade to get those 3D models walking around and acting like a real person. 3D animators are highly valued in the industry and this is a great way to get your foot in the door. Students will be able to take home a copy of their short movie.

Trackmania Senior - Intermediate Course
Use cutting-edge game engine technology to create a race track of your own design and build your own race car. Students will be able to leave with their own level and car to play as well as a DVD with captured in-game footage to show to family and friends. This two-day course is suitable for all students from complete beginners to those with experience in 3D animation.

In the Movies - Advanced Course
Every wondered how they made Transformers, Star trek or Spiderman? This course will help you understand by teaching you some tricks to place yourself inside the movies with different out of world experiences. Using special software, students will end up with a short movie which they can take home.

The Unreal Experience - Advanced course - 15+ Years only
Learn how to build Levels using one of the leading games engines in the games industry. Using the UT3 engine, students will build a level that they can play in against their friends using unreal tournament 2008. Students will be able to take home copies of their levels.

Supreme Sketching - Advanced Course
Wanting to harness the power of the computer to get the most out of your art? Students for this course will learn to use Photoshop and other drawing mediums to their full extent. By combining with a graphics tablet, student will be able to let their imagination run wild and create the most fanciful or realistic images. Students will leave with some printed and all digital copies of their work and the knowledge to continue on at home.
