Digital VFX: Van Hewitt & the Umberhulk

A small group of five artists at the AIE Sydney Campus created an impressive CGI character and comped him into live action backplates shot on a Red One camera.


The Umberhulk was sculpted in Zbrush, retopologised in 3D Coat and textured in Mari by Levi Rice. Shot day for night the 3d was relit by Lara Collins. Digital destruction effects by A.J (Andrew Holloway. Animation and comp in Nuke by Alex "Hewie" Hewitt and environment modelled by Matthew Graham.
